would Geil Golden Dragon PC3500 1GB (512x2) be a good OCer??? it's gonna go with a 2500+ and an NF7-S. i want to get corsair 3500 in the same deal but i can't find it anywhere

It will work...people will possibly bitch about its high timings (i think?) but pc3500 will definitely let you overclock up to the limits of either the motherboard or the chipset...the ram won't hold you back.

Haven't heard anything bad about it.

Corsair is so expensive. After playing with some Kingston, I'd never touch it again. True, I never really gave the Kingston a chance, but still.

I got some of the Geil Platinum stuff and it is a good set of RAM. Geeze, if you buy something from Newegg, you can usually exchange it or return it for something else if you don't like it.

Honestly, I wouldn't buy any RAM right now, unless it's on special sale or something. RAM prices are going up, so now isn't a good time.

Geil is not a good match for the NF7. It's just not a good brand that gels with NF7. OCZ goes much better, or Corsair. Mushkin, OCZ, Corsair...Geil has intermittent problems on the NF7 series. You can be a tight-wad, but why gamble?!

i'm looking at hyperx right now. but that's $250 i was hoping for somewhere around $200 guess i might end up with 3200. don't know for sure though. i'll be waiting until next month to get everything but i'm just trying to get mt ideas in line for when i'm ready to make my purchase

edit: just looked at some OCZ and it's about $230 which isn't too bad and it's got some pretty good timings. that might stay on my list unless i hear some bad things about it

I easily got my 2.8c HT up to 3.6ghz with the Geil Golden Dragon 1gig kit (2x512) PC3500 on an Abit IC7-Max3 Mobo. Haven't tried to push it anymore, but i's definatly got the potential to go past a 1ghz OC

my geil is doing me good on my NF7-S, but mines only 3200

value series getting 5-3-3-2 is pretty damn awesome IMO, im getting a second stick for some dual channel action soon enough

Try 7-3-3-2, it might benchmark and actually work a bit faster.

My GeIL platinum PC-3500 CL2(that's 6-3-3-2) sticks aren't doing so well in my NF7-S. I guess I can't rule out that I'm not cooling the northbridge enough, but I can't get the FSB above 215 stable and that's with loose timings, like 9-4-4-2.5. For some reason it doesn't like CAS3.0, and CAS2.0, which it is actually SUPPOSED to be running at won't run worth a poop over ~185.

These are 2x 512MB sticks, granted they aren't from the same batch and they are running in dual channel, I have tested them both individually without getting better results. I can up the voltage to 2.9v if I want, but I'm worried about heat.

I'm running at 200@2.8vDDR 7-3-3-2.5 right now and it's stable, but it's also winter. I've had problems in the past. Has anyone dealt with GeIL's warranty service? I was thinking about getting some new ones or something. I wasn't too worried about it because I don't know how much farther my 2500+ will go and have stuck with one of the sticks for about a year.

Try maxing your mobo voltage on that RAM if you haven't already. ;)

Yeah I can get it more stable with 2.9v and lower timings, haven't tried CAS2 in awhile, maybe it's been worn-in a bit. The problem I have is that these sticks are supposed to be able to do 216.5@2.7v at 6-3-3-2, they clearly aren't.

Geil tends to be very voltage hungry. Mine works very well with high voltage, and tends to require looser timings with lower voltages.
