going to raid 5 p965 intel board? (for data, not boot)

First,
Is it possible to do? I have 2 similar drives, a 1 TB and a 750 gb drive.

I was thinking of adding a 3rd in raid5 to get some additional data protection.

A performance bump would be nice, but not needed. A performance drop would suck, but if it's minimal, no problem.

Am I wasting my time here?

RAID5 on Intel controllers is said to have really low performance. You would be better off with a RAID1.
