hi i wanna know what do u guys at college use (display wise) i'm running dual 19 crt's right now but i'm thinkin of going to a single 17 inch lcd, so wut do u use?

do you game much? If so, the best LCD for gaming is prolly the 710t from samsung. I am also heading to college in the fall, think ill pick one of those up.

Are any of you that are taking LCD's with you worried about theft? Have you thought about a locking soultion?

Just curious.

I guess it would really depend on your college's furniture, but assuming my college is generic furniture you really need to bring an LCD....on my desk at school there just isn't room for even a 19" CRT and enough left over space to do work on. I believe schools normally have keyboard trays now so that saves some room, but mine was a pain in the butt and so I didn't even use it

Edit: As far as locking things down, I don't and I leave my door unlocked, but then again I am an idiot. My advice would be to just buy a lockdown kit and use it, then you don't have to worry about it.

i was told that the 710t has a spot for a laptop lock on it. I will prolly pick one of those up for the dorm.

i have a viewsonic vp201mb and i love it. there is minimal ghosting in games/video if any. i really need extra desk space because i need a piece of equipment to magnify books because of my bad vision, that thing by itself takes up more space than a regular crt so i need as much as i can get.

i didn't lock up my lcd last year and never had a problem. i had a good roomate so i didn't have to worry about him, then again, your roomate can't really steal and use your monitor w/o your noticing. i did (nearly) always lock my door though. also, i'm a large guy and if anyone knew what was good for them, they wouldnt fuck with me.

an important thing is get to know the people on your floor, to a lesser extent the building. i think some people are less likely to steal their friends stuff (with the exceptions of just screwing around, i stole one of the guy's subwoofers, it was hillarious, i gave it back of course).

also, lcd's are definately worth it for space, if on the odd chance you needed convincing of that. several of the people on my floor had crt's and i'll be damned if they could have used the desks for anything else.

Im bringing a 23" l2335 :D Going to use it for my TV (hdtv), playing ps2/xbox, and of course as my computer. I think it will be worth it.

ok recommend me a nice maybe 19 inch flat screen IF possible for around 500, i don't care if it's not hte most top of the line brand as long as i don't get mad crazy ghosting in games

For 19inches you are going to have a hard time finding one cheap that is not going to ghost on you. You probally just ought to bring one of your current 19s and then save your beer money for a good lcd screen.

In my experience at college, lugging around a crt can be a giant pain in the ass. Not to mention that I barely had room to fit even a 17" crt on those crappy desks, so eventually I said screw it and shelled out for a 19" lcd. So worth it.

And since they are a lot cheaper than when I bought them, make sure to get one with a lower response time.
