Going into standby when plugged in, then unplugging...

G'morning all,

What happens if a laptop is set to never hibernate while it's plugged in, it goes into standby, and then I unplug it? Does it detect that it's been unplugged, and switch to the "on battery" setting, i.e. will go into hibernate at appropriate time? Or does it not know that it's been unplugged, and will stay in standby until the battery runs out?

I would appreciate an answer for both XP and Vista, as I have laptops with both.

Thanks for your time. :)

I believe once the OS is in standby, it does nothing but drain battery until it is powered back on with a keyboard/mouse/power button event.
