Can anybody explain or give me a link to an explanation of what "GO stepping" actually is? I'm planning on ordering my new PC build fairly soon after the 22nd :)

g0 stepping is just the newest revision of the Core 2. It's just like version 1.2 vs 1.1. From what I've heard, it runs considerably cooler and generally allows for a couple hundred extra mhz overclock if not more.
 
ummm. Also g0 stepping has claimed to be doing worse on the E6550 6750 chips.

Apparently the only good g0 stepping so far is E6850 and soon to finaliaze the q6600.

apparently the older steppings have done better with overclocking.

The only benefit truly ont he g0 steppings, are that they are suppose to run cooler.
 
Here's a guy on the [H]ard forum that after one day is running his new E6550 at 3570 MHz and is 3DMark06 stable. He hasn't got around to increasing the cpu voltage yet! :eek: He's as shocked as I am how simple it was.

The G0 is a beast and less voltage equals a lot less heat or a little more overclocking. Either one is good.
 
Personally I don't plan to overclock, hence why I'm buying what I consider a high end system. So a "GO stepping" cpu and non "GO stepping" cpu are the same except the "GO stepping" one runs cooler and at a lower voltage (referring to the q6600)?
So it's no real reason for me to hold out any longer than when the price drops come in to play just to make sure I get a "GO stepping" processor?

All E6X50 are based on the G0 stepping, however the Q6600 will have both the new G0 and older versions mixed together; you'd have to find a retailer willing to guarantee you a G0 (or a B&M store that won't mind you looking at the numbers on the boxes to find the one you want) in that case.

Regarding the lack of overclocking, I guess it won't really matter too much in the case of Q6600 if you don't care about the heat and voltage, but the E6X50 do have higher FSB and clocks than their old multiplier equivalents.
 
What is more important to know, is whether retailers will be selling the G0 Steppings of the Q6600 on July 22nd. I'll be buying shortly after the initial wave, and curious to see whether most people are going to be getting the G0 Stepping from etailers like NewEgg, ZZF, etc. instead of the older steppings.
