Go Single Core Now and AM2 later?

I just ordered a new computer from newegg because I felt it was time to upgrade from my old AMD Athlon 1.33GHz machine to a more wellsuited gaming rig. So, I purchased a Amd 4000+ because I felt it would give me the most bang for my buck. I may overclock it just depends on if I learn how to do so. But, I really want to know if my whole idea of just go single core for gaming now, skip the X2, and go straight to AM2 is a good idea?

Youll be happy with it jumping from the old athlon, it will game just fine for awhile. No matter when you upgrade, youll always be "waiting" for the new thing.

yea, well said. technology seems to have a new thing every year. can i say " i have an AM2 and i am still waiting for the next new thing?":)

IMO, M2 isnt the question right now, its dual core. How much money did you spend on that 4000+?

the question is single core now or AM2 dual core later?

From what I hear it's only going to be a stepping change, AMD supporting DDR2 offically, also there is some speculation that AMD might test out its 300mm wafers on 90nm technology sometime soon (in prep to move to 65nm). What it all means is a new stepping that supports DDR2 and possibly some more overclocking head room becasue of the move to the 300mm wafers. There shouldn't be any major architectural changes other than that. If anything you should go dual core becasue I believe all of the AM2 offerings will be dual core.

I know what his question is hehe :) What im saying is if you're going to buy a single core CPU thats just as much money as a current dual core cpu, why are you buying the single?
