Hey guys,,,

I just got a gmail account, and I like it so much I am switching over all my email activity to it.

Is there any way I can change my hardforums email account to be a gmail account? For some reason it is not letting me citing new account abuse problems with yahoo and hotmail accounts...

Thanks,
Matt

sorry, free email accounts are just abused too often
gmail was recently added to the list

Sorry, but no. We've had some problems with free accounts and gmail is as free and untraceable as yahoo or hotmail, so the decision was made to disallow it for registration here.

Ahh I guess I made the silly mistake of assuming that initial registration, and changing ones long standing account email adress to be two different things :(

Oh well.. Guess I'll just have to rely on looking at my subscribed forms like before the forums update instead of getting email notifications :(

I believe Kyle made a policy that anyone currently reg'd with a gmail acct would be allowed to remain, except if they chose to update their profile options, they would have to enter a new valid (non-free) addy to do so. Seems fair to me.;)

That does suck because I only use my ISP email for family or financial email exchanges. And my Yahoo or Gmail for friend and forum emails. Oh well guess ill just have to use a filter for a change to but the reply notices in a different spot.

Didn't realize they added g-mail to the no-no list. But that seems fair, now I don't have to use my e-mail address with my name in it. Thanks Kyle.

Not to be a total PITA - but is there a large overhead involved with alowing a second address to be specified for the purpose of thread tracking only? (Just an idea, and one that's admittedly probably not worth it)

It's not an option with the vBulletin software being used. It could probably be done, but would require custom coding. vBull considers any alterations to their software to be a "hack" that voids the warranty, so to speak, and they will not provide support to anyone who "hacks" their software.

Personally, for thread tracking, getting an email every time there's a response to a thread I posted in would be a huge PITA. I much prefer subscribing without notification, then I can just go into my user control panel and see what's up/new. :)
