Hi, I am considering gluing a 30mm fan I scavenged to my NB heatsink to improve cooling - anyone know what type of glue I could use that would bond well, be thermally resistant, and not 'melt' the plastic of the fan?
 
Tiny dabs of superglue/cyanoacrylate would do nicely, I think. Wait an hour before you test it!
 
Instead of a thin, rigid glue like cyanoacrylate, you should consider a flexible adhesive that can be removed in the future (e.g. if the fan fails). If it's rubbery, it will provide some vibration isolation as well. You can try a bit of bathtub caulk in the corners of the fan - clear silicone would likely work well. It will definitely stick to the anodized aluminum of the NB - if you've ever tried to remove such stuff from an aluminum shower door, you'd know how well it sticks. :)

The fan body is likely not going to be sensitive to some of the solvents in many adhesives. Test it first by putting a small amount on the fan body.
 
Clear silicone would work fairly well... But i'd still get a 2 part gel epxoy. The quick-set 5 minute gel epoxy sold at home depot works wonders for this.

Just a tiny bit on the fan corners and flip it over onto the HSF.
 
i am normaly lazy and have a hot glue gun handy so a dab of hot glue is what i use. silicone/ RTV sealant or epoxy would work better, i suppose, if your heatsink gets hot enough to melt the hot glue ;)
 
Get a Double Sided Adhesive or even thin tape. Cut it to your fitting. But the padded one is better and they are pretty strong stuff. I use these on my 120mm fans and sticking them to the side of my case and they stick pretty good. i really have to use a lot of force to pull them out. I'm so happy with this stuff. No Screws.
