Glass Case?

Hi everyone. A few months ago here at the forums, someone posted a picture of a glass computer case. Not a plexiglass case, but a real glass case. A link was also posted of the website that sells them and it was quite expensive. Does anyone know about the case to which I am referring or know of something similar? Thanks

hm. never heard of them before.

It would suck if you accidently dropped one of those though.

i remember seeing a custom stained glass case w/ the lead joints and everything, plus a lava lamp in the front, but that was all hand done, not for sale

I don't think the glass would get that hot, because it does take quite a bit of heat to crack glass. I mean, people do use glass for smoking pipes and such so they are exposed to direct flame there and don't crack.

couldn't the glass crack from the heat of the computerr?
glass can take quite a bit of heat, more than any pc is going to produce

They put them out in the desert on houses so I wouldnt think so
If it was a "desert", there wouldnt be any houses to begin with. What in the world are you talking about?

A desert, according to free dictionary is "A dry, often sandy region of little rainfall, extreme temperatures, and sparse vegetation.", could most definately have houses.

If you were trying to flame him for a spelling mistake, you did one hell of a job of it, buddy.

edit: I was proved wrong. But since we like to go by dictionary terms I thought Id throw this in here for kicks.

desert- dry, barren and often sandy region

barren- an uninhabited wilderness that is worthless for cultivation

incapable of sustaining life

Yeah, Las Vegas is in the Mojave Desert according to wikipedia but lets stop this arguement, and get back to the topic of glass cases

um. . . Well how about Palm Desert? There happens to be this big city out there where a decent amount of old people retire(41155 approx. population), including my grandparents on my mothers side. Try doing research before saying something stupid like that.

oh right, and Las Vegas, where the other half of my grandparents live (478434 approx. population). So over half a million people seem to believe otherwise. Flamer -_-.

No kidding on the glass heat thing come on. They make cases out of PLASTIC. Computer heat will never kill glass... Moving on. That upper design is pretty nice looking. Probably just as hard to keep looking clean like Acrylic cases.

New [h} challenge:

Build a case out of bulletproof glass

That would crack me up... especially if you dampened it enough that the hard drive wouldn't skip when you shot the case

Imagine how heavy a case of Bulletproof glass would be though, damn... And not many drive by case shootings going on... :)

Bullet proof glass costs a fortune... expect about a $1000 case :)

I've actually looked into a 90% glass case. The design was fairly simple. Fancy channel L brackets forming the 'surrounds,' and using grounded mirrors (yes, mirrors are glass too) to handle EMI/RFI shielding.
I happen to know someone who can cut glass, including mirrors, and does it for a living.
$1000 is way low. First of all, there's two kinds of bullet resistant glass; laminate and polycarbonate. (You know it as Lexan. Just very thick Lexan.) Both are extremely heavy and extremely expensive. And having it cut will cost you another fortune, especially since the cuts are difficult and complex for the back and front panels.
Let's just say I was looking at more than $1500 and decided that it wasn't worth it. I have done a few mirror 'windows' though, which is a lot more reasonable. :)

Did you mean bulletproof glass, or would a glass case cost you $1000+? You kinda lost me cause I'm not sure which type you were talking about...

And yeah the bulletproof case thing was a joke, if one was made it'd probably be the maker who shot at it... I mean seriously how often is your computer shot at?

Besides that, you'd have to watercool with a maze of tubing to make it 100% bulletproof.... having four fans in holes in the glass kinda defeats the purpose of bulletproof glass, don't ya think? You could use a maze of passageways like they do for bathrooms without doors, but that'd just be shitty airflow.

Of course there is probably some way I'm not thinking of...

well you could always market them in the "hoods" next time someone drives by and sprays your house in the hood with an AK you can just dive behind your computer.
