Just built myself a new gaming pc/hackintosh and just curious about the link speed of my M.2 drive, as currently it only connects at x2 which gives me around 750MB/s read/write. Understand this drive is capable of quite a bit more!

    * i7-4790K
    * 4x 8GB Corsair Vengeance
    * GTX 980
    * Samsung SM951 512GB in motherboards M.2 slot

Also have a Myricom 10G-PCIE2-8B2-2S, x8 PCIe card which needs installing but haven't got that far in my setup yet.

Is this the best I can expect from this motherboard?

Yes, not going to get too much better. The M.2 slot on your board has 2 PCIe 2.0 lanes, so the theoretical maximum you're looking at is 1GB/s. Keep in mind that random IO won't be affected as much and you should still get great performance out of it.
