So just upgraded today from my i5 6600k on an asus 170-a board. Fresh install on a new hard drive of windows, i7700k with 32gb of ram. Getting it to see more than one stick of ram was a battle and a story for another day. My issue is this, the motherboard has Soundblaster X-Fi MB5 on it. So I was like fuck it, I won't install my PCIE soundblaster I'll just use onboard. Got everything installed and updated, plugged in my Astro A40 w/mixamp to the optical out on the board and...no sound. I get sound via HDMI, I get sound from my HyperX Cloud 2 headset (USB). The control applet shows that there is a connection via the optical out. Everything is selected in the sound devices, but...no sound. Well I take that back, voice comes through the headset fine, but I don't get anything else. Anybody have any ideas?

check the output format, check the spdif is set to default out put and maybe check for newer drivers.
+1. If you see light out of the cable, check the format. Most devices would do PCM.
