when i started out tearing the HSF off of my card last night, i had originally planned on replacing it with a PAL6035. i was going to use the old spring mounting screws from my other Alpha HSF, the PAL8045, but the screws don't fit through the mounting holes.
using the stock cooler with Shin Etsu on the core and no TIM on the RAM, i am able to do 540/610 in 3dmark2k1. i'm sure i'll be able to do more as soon as i get everything setup correctly.
this is with a 120MM fan i just installed over the card.

if you compare the HSF to the one i posted previously, you can see where it extends. i don't like the design. Asus uses this same HSF on one of their cards, and a similar setup with heatpipes on another X800 card. compared to my old Visiontek X800XT(non-PE) the HSF Is about 1/2" taller and wider than the reference ATi design.
as you can see, the TIM on the RAM looks kinda like a marshmellow with a peice of pink rubbery bandage like material stuck over it. i think someone at the factory forgot to remove the plastic from one side. before i removed the TIM, i was getting artifacts on the desktop at 600MHz. i also cleaned up the mess of thermal compound around the GPU and my temps dropped by about 2c.
