gigabyte processor upgrade?

I bought this mobo about early 2007:
GA-965P-DS3 P965

w/ an e6300
and OCZ2P8002GK 2x1gb

I'm running an 8800gts 320mb.

I think my processor is bottle necking the performance. When I play left4 dead, it periodically just freezes up. Is the RAM, cpu, or somethin else?

If it's the cpu, what can I get that'll handle the games reasonably w/o having to buy new RAM/mobo

I wouldn't think any of those components would slow you down in L4D. Have you tried running memtest? it might just be bad memory

memory passed the test =\ anythign else it could be? i'm runnin it on 1920x1200 btw.. but i'm fairly certain the video card is handling it fine

By freezes up you mean it is completely locked, or it just "pauses" for a while then comes back?

Your hardware can handle the game this sounds more software related.

Try resetting your ram. This was happening to me in CS:S and that fixed it for me.

it pauses for a whie then comes back.. by resetting ram, u mean just pull'em out and plug'em in the other holes right? =\ It's a pretty fresh install (of windows).. so i hope it's not software ... though I did just upgrade the video card drivers..

That is what I did. But it should work by just taking them out and putting them back in the same slots.

What exactly does re-seating the memory sticks do, considering memtest was already passing?

Are you sure it wasn't that Multi-core setting? I had that enabled and it would result in random freeze ups and studdering. After I disabled it, everything ran a-okay.

Same! Was fine with my 8800GT and once I put in my GTX 260 it started! Thought my new video card was fubared!

PS: Here's the setting "mat_queue_mode 0" for others with this issue!

I have no clue why resetting the RAM shoudl work when memtest completed w/o issues... All I know is.. I stuck them in diff slots and it stopped pausing on me

I left the multi-core as it was...

yes it's weird.. in theory it should've done nothing.. but I really don't care as long as my comp works the way I want it to. maybe nudging the video card while resetting the ram did somethin.. who knows. THE GAME WORKS now is my bottomline.
