Gigabyte Mini PC - BRIX

It's really nice to see a competitor on the same page as the NUC.
That extra 1cm you save on the thickness makes me happy as it will now fit behind my wallmounted TV without a problem.
Soon I will have my first HTPC.

I would conunt on XBOX One as my new HTPC:D

I wouldn't use any console as an HTPC.
That's what I used to use my PS3 for, but it was so much hassle to convert everything to .mp4 or .divx(if I wanted subtitles) and even then navigation is really bad :/

It's kind of late to be announcing this given that Haswell is going to launch in under a week. I do hope Gigabyte will quickly update this to support Haswell because Intel will be reasing a Haswell-based NUC in the very near future.

yeah i think a lot of people will hold out on these for new haswell processors. hopefully that doesnt discourage gigabyte too much. one thing of note is that it comes with a (half-height?) mini-pcie wireless module included, which means if you plan on using ethernet then you have an extra pcie port there. not sure what you can do with it though...

I just got a 1st gen for a client, the 3227 (i3), and just installed win 8.1 on it. Only have a 2gb stick of ram handy, but with that and a plextor m5m 128gb msata, I'm pretty impressed with the speed. From the bios splash to desktop is 11.5 seconds.

Idle power draw is 10 watts on my killawatt, when the display shuts off, drops to 8, watching a youtube 1080p full screen is 17.

The fan is inaudible most of the time, I've heard it ramp up once when rebooting. Case is warm, but not hot by any means when sitting idle.

Pretty cool little gadget.

The BRIX II w/ Iris Pro. graphics looks nice. I'm in for one if it's less than $400.

show me a kabini based brix for <£200 and i'll be interested.
