I just got this board here are it's specs:

supports up to 400 fsb .. supports athlon xp.... SiS chipset... 8x agp... ddr dimm..

theres a swith on the board called SW1

Value 1 = 100 mhz
Value 2(off) = AUTO (supports 266/333/400 mhz CPU)

NOTE: it doesn't say this is the fsb... but I'm pretty sure it is..

I have an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ "Barton" 400 fsb ....

IT will boot up when its on 1 but it won't boot when its on off(auto)... W T F!!!! it should be vice versa. The stock clock speed on this processor is like 2.x ghz and right now i am at 1.05 ghz ... can someone please tell me wtf is up with this??? i'm so lost its not even funny.. when I boot up with the SW1 switch off everything starts but I don't hear the beep and nothing comes on monitor...

freeofparanoia,
specifically what board is that, and please list your full system specs, including power supply info.

I have the gigabyte ga 7n400 Pro, so assuming your board is somewhat similar, you could check the following:

Can you get into cmos at all?
If so go into cmos and set cup paramaters and interface specs, or load optimized defaults, reboot and see what you get.

you also may need to pull cmos battery, push the power button a couple of times to discharge the mb, and then unplug the power from the system, wait anywhere from 30sec to several hours(it seems to vary) put cmos batt back in, plug in system, hold down insert key, and power up, that should put you at the main cmos scrn.

I'll check back and see if youve responded to this

Laterz,

with the SW1 on I can get into cmos but with it off I can't at all. If I go into bios and change the speeds it doesn't boot at all and I have to reset SW1... but i'll see about the battery thing..

when I do the battery thing should I have SW1 enabled or disabled ? (disabled would mean trying to get the cpu to work at 400 fsb, usually doesn't boot up at all here)

:) :) :) :) :D :D :D :D :D :D

I didn't know that having a stick of 512 ddr pc3200 + 128 ddr pc2100 would cause it not to boot up..

took out the 128... it boots

now it says amd athlon xp 3000+ at startup
and now im clocked at 2.1 ghz

guess i learn new things every day (im still novice)
