Gigabyte Dual GPU and SLI

This is a SLI setup on 1 card using Nvidia 6600GT's.

Think of it as 2 cards in one with all the benefits and drawbacks of SLI.

And @ $400US (ot thereabouts)

dont forget it works only on ONE mobo, surprisingly produced by Gygabyte :D

It would probably work on another mobo, you would just have to use the SLI chip that came with the Gigabyte board-- or atleast I think. Although concidering the card comes with a mobo I don't see why anyone would buy another board, Gigabyte's mobo looks purty robust.

Okay since I didn't get an answer in a different discussion about this card I'll ask again. Anandtech says they are running the 3D1 in SLI. Does this really mean that since the card has two cores that it is running in SLI by itself? Because if they had two of those cards running SLI then it definately doesn't seem worth it.

That single card is 2 cards in 1. It is 1 physical card, takes up 1 slot, but has 2 cores on it configured in a SLI manner. They are not running 2 of the 3d1 cards, but 1 3d1 card which has 2 GPU's on it.

I dont think its possible to take 2 of those cards and SLI them again (or is it??).

Too bad you can't sli two dual gpu vid cards. Don't know if that would even be possible, but it would be sweet.

edit: heh, Bullitt, I should read the thread I guess :)

If its possible, its going to be like a RAID setup. There will definitely be a point of diminishing returns. I suppose given the overhead of keeping everything in SLI-check, more cards wont equal one more "times X" performance. If its possible, it wont be pratical except for the benchmark whores :D

I suppose if it were possible, the cost of buying 3, 4, or whatever number of cards would force me to think about getting the current generation, whatever that would be.

Why in the world do people not test a 6800 GT when doing reviews on this card? It would be the main competition, being as they are both around $400. Not the Ultra. :arg:
