Okay so im going to set up only ONE HDD but i want to put it on SATA on a GIGABYTE GA-K8N Pro-SLI Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard. Can anyone explain to me (detailed) how i would set this up in the bios and then install it with windows?

turn off computer, install drive, connect cables. Put windows install cd w/ service pack 2 in, maybe load sata drivers from floppy, format, install windows

Why would i reformat the HD again?

The Windows install formats the drive for you (well guides you through, same thing). I'm sure that's what he meant.

oooh i thought he meant reformat it AGAIN! whoa! lol

can anyone explain to me how i would set up SATA if i only have 1 HDD tho....dont i have to make certain changes in the BIOS like....

or

is there anything i have to change there???

So im setting up 1 HDD in the sata port. It should auto-detect and be on by default?
oh and those screenshots were from a guide, they werent from my BIOS.

Just plug it in and see if it works (probably will by default). If not, make sure SATA is enabled in the BIOS.

WHat if RAID is enabled? will that mess up my one HDD or no? i dont think it will...

thanks a lot volkum...if it doesnt default ill tweak it and i should be able to work...not THAT many options i could possibly change :D

Solution: Turn off computer, remove motherboard, put in non gigabyte motherboard.

My friend had that board, nothing but troubles with SATA and IDE drives, also usb/ps2 devices.
