Does anyone know or have info if amd will make a 7950 ghz edition. NOW that for teh *price* for *performance* would so pwn :D
 
If they make a 7950 ghz , it'll be 50$ more. Main difference between these and older ones is that the bios frequency is higher at base frequency and boost increases the voltage. Which you can do already do with 3rd party software like afterburner on the 7950. So price /performance won't be as good.
 
they will be binnned higher, so theoretically they should OC higher.
 
7970 ghz review showed average oc compared to 7970. binned to run at the +125mhz ghz version.
Like any vid card oc is a crap shoot. Stating that a ghz edition will oc higher for now is only guess work at best.
We'll have to wait and see.
 
Do you guys foresee the current retail prices of the 7970s and 7950s being lowered once the 7970 GEs become available in retail channels?
 
More than likely, but it'll be slow going. They're still selling fairly well. For about a month or two, they'll be where they are right now ($450+ for 7970, $390+ for 7950) with the occasional deal. By the time they drop to considerably lower prices, next-gen will be around the corner.
