Ghosting To SATA Drive

Are there any programs out there that will let me make an image of my old Matrox PATA drive and put it on a new WD SATA Drive, and have my SATA be the main?

Using Norton Ghost2003 i can clone to the SATA but it wont take over as the main drive and still relies on the old drive for operation.

While storing the image of the matrox on a different serial ata drive and trying to use that image to restore the main serial drive. using norton, it will either freeze or continuously reboot after the "Verifying DMI pool..." thing .

Is there any way i can do this or will i have to bite the bullet and install Windows fresh to the new drive?

From Microsoft Knowledge Base-

Desktop Management Interface (DMI) is a method for managing computers in an organization. The main component, Management Information Format Database (MIFD), is a database that contains all the information about the local computer and its components

Sounds like your CMOS data doesn't match your configuration and that is generating the error and the perpetual boot loop. I'd dig around in the BIOS and check all the options to make sure you are trying to boot to the SATA drive. Did you pull the cable on the PATA drive? Look in the BIOS for something like "reset configuration data" or anything worded close to that and see what it is for. If you cannot get it to run, let us know what OS you are running on what mobo. Got a couple of other ideas, but let's do one at a time.

i've already tried loading faiil safes in the bios, i made sure i was booting to the Serial ATA option. And Serial ATA was enabled in the PCI Component section.

Im Running on an Abit NF7S-2 with windows XP

I have tried unplugging the Main hard drive and booting straight from the sata after i did a clone, but it would refuse to boot and sit/freeze at the welcome screen(I think this is where it froze)

I assumed that you might get to Windows, and it may be a bit crabby because you moved everything around, and it may take a while to get it comfortable in it's new arrangment... but. I'm not sure that what you are trying to do is going to work. The more I think about it, the more I think your hosed. When you install XP onto a SATA drive there are drivers for the SATA controller that you have to load during installation to enable you to boot to the SATA drive. Your installation doesn't have them. I'm not sure if you try to boot to the XP cd and do a repair if it will let you install the drivers now as an afterthought. Never did a repair. I have seen from other post here that you do not want to count on your current PATA drive's data being readable if you do have to do a repair or full install. Make sure you have your data on the PATA drive ,and the other SATA drive you referred to backed up onto disks. You may have to parition and format all the drives for XP to be able to access them. Just a heads up. If you can hold out for some other suggestions, I would. Somebody may have a better idea that would be easier.:)
