Ghosting problems with longer cable

I have dual 19'' lcd monitors and am using VGA cables for it. The problem is that my setup does not allow for the standard 6' cable. so i bought a 15 foot cable but now my all images look like u copied the image and pasted it as a watermark about a quarter of an inch away to ther right; kind of like a ghost. Do they sell an amplifier? Is there a special setting for my card ( 7800 gt) What can i do? I really dont want to spend any more money on this but i will if i have to.

Check all of your connections, something might be funky. Otherwise I suggest getting higher-quality cables.

The cables are cheap?
Make sure you have them away from EVERY eletric source AKA power cords.

I purchased a generic "15FT TRIPLE SHIELDED M/M VGA CABLE" from ebay. It works fine, running right next to the monitor's power cord for a few feet. I have a single Dell 24" widescreen.

I bought the 15' cable after trying to piggyback a normal cable and an extension. That gave me one awful-ass picture. Now it's great.

My guess is it's a shitty cable and you're getting big time interference. Get a better cable.

Yay for crosstalk.

perhaps a ferrite bead?

2405fpw, and you're useing VGA. ???

OP you have few things working against you here, two of them are: high resolution and longer cable lengths. A few quick points, some of which has been posted already.

- Get a better sheilded cable. A triple shielded 24awg vga cable w/ferrites would be ideal here.
- Stay away from dvi~vga adapters when running higher resolutions and longer cable lengths (as in your case).
- Disconnect any KVM switches for now, they can degrade vga picture quality especially at higher resolutions.
- Stay away from VGA extension cables.
- Stay away from vga signal amplifiers unless you want to spend $$. The cheaper ones can introduce fuzz, and may not be capable of the 2405's higher resolution.
- Re-route cables away from unshielded speakers and power cables, cross over power cables perpendicular if you must (reduces interference that way).

Oh yea, any reason you aren't using DVI? With the 2405 it would give you better IQ and since you need to buy cables anyway, now would be a good time to switch over. Monoprice.com has some nice 24awg DVI cables that ought to handle 15' lengths @ high resolution with no problem. Not sure if monoprice's super-VGA cables are capable of the 2405's high resolution @ 15' lengths, i suspect they are but i'm not 100% sure. I have used both their 15' and 25' super-vga cables @ 1600x1200 with no ill effects but the 2405's 1920x1200 native rez is a taller order to fill.

G'luck either way.

Edit: I don't know how i thought OP was using a 2405, must have been Kritter's spam post above mine. Most of what i said above still applies though ;)

Im running a Samsung a940 which is just Vga. My card comes with DVI so the DVI to VGA converter is nesesary to go to my monitors. This monitor was the one on sale for 199 on BF. I guess i can go with the triple shielded cable though im now spending more money on this then i would like to, but i dont want to loose picture quality from this.

It's likely that the vga~dvi adapter is *part* of the problem here. Since you're buying a new cable anyway why don't you pickup an actual dvi~vga cable and get rid of the crappy adapter?

Here's the dvi~vga cable i'm speaking of: http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...05&p_id=602&style=&seq=1&format=2#description (great time to get rid of that crummy adapter!) ;)
