I am trying to install xp on my x41 laptop. the laptop doen't have a rom drive so i thought i would ghost xp to it. So I installed xp to a vm and ran sysprep, then i ghosted that image to the x41. That all worked fine but the laptop BSOD's. Will this not work? Did I not drun sysprep correctly?

That's an older machine with PATA isn't it?

How about simplify your life and use an external CD drive. You can even do a USB to PATA converter and use any old CDROM you might have around, that's what I do.

I'm no help on sysprep though.

I think this is more difficult in windows xp. You need to tell sysprep where to look for the correct drivers. In windows 7 it will just search for them.

If you're getting a stop error 7B (0x0000007B), then it's the hard drive controller. It's the bane of all unattended or sysprepped installations. It could also be a mismatched HAL or a driver problem, too.

If you've got a method move the ghosted image to the machine, can't you find a way to get it booted to some OS to install XP?

im not sure what you mean?

the machine had been running win7 32, but for school i wanted to change to xp because it would run faster.
