Has there been any release of a mouse acceleration fix for Ghostbusters - official or not - that google and I haven't run across yet?

I'm not usually super fussy about these sorts of things like some people here are, but the MA in Ghostbusters is purely NASTY, and really ruins what otherwise looks like an entertaining game.

Never had a problem with it or was aware there was one.

There are some work arounds, and 3rd party progs, mentioned on the Steam forums for the MA issue.

I experienced it as well, but just played through it. After you buy one of the available in game upgrades, it isn't nearly as problematic.

Sony bought the game at the eleventh hour and then tried to kill the 360 and PC versions, but backed down and did a delayed exclusive deal. It doesn't surprise me that there's no post-release support for a crappy and obligatory console port.

Actually, there is a pretty good fix that has been around for a while, you can get it here.

what is this MA issue? does it have mouse acceleration on by default?

i just finished d/ling this yesterday and havent had a chance to play it yet.

It has fairly substantial mouse acceleration forced on with no way to disable in game. With a sensitive mouse you'll find yourself overshooting your target by like 20 degrees or so, it's crazy.

don't hold your breath, I'm pretty sure they couldn't give a shit about proper mouse support.

Uhh...I think you need to recheck your information. Sony ALWAYS owned it because Sony owns the franchise. The ONLY exclusive deal that happened was a timed exclusive in Europe. There were rumors (key-word) of Sony doing it in the US, but they were squashed by the developers, the publishers, and Sony.

you guys didn't notice any issues with the mouse? wow. I am not even that picky in a game like this but the mouse was horrible. Ghostbusters was a one of the few games that gave me a reason to use a controller.

I didn't really notice it either. Though maybe I'm just so used to it as its a fairly common problem. Or I'm just easily able to adapt.

The game was originally to be published by Atari, actually.

Do you think the OP would be looking for a fix if the MA wasn't just always on and had an option to just simply turn it off?

well you would have at least thought that the PS3 version would have looked the best but sadly it sucked compared to the 360.

Xbox 360 wins this by a landslide. If we didn’t know any better we would have thought the Ghostbusters was developed on the Xbox 360 and ported, poorly, to the PlayStation 3. However all sources indicate the PS3 was the lead, and so you’ve got an issue on your hands. Either someone is lying, or the porting team does better work then the lead team. Don’t believe the lies, buy this game on the Xbox 360. http://www.lensoftruth.com/?p=10974

It was only published by Atari in NTSC territories, champ. Sony published it everywhere else.

Either way, it is in Sony's interests to get people playing it on their console, so crappy post-release support for the PC release is hardly a surprise.

Wrong again man. Sony only published the PS3, PS2, and PSP versions in PAL territories. When the game eventually launched on the Wii, 360, PC, and DS in those territories it was published by Atari. Sony's exclusivity was timed only.

Fair enough. The whole exclusive/not exclusive thing confused me considering Sony delayed the non-Sony-platform versions a month or so before release.

Yeah it was a really late announcement. Came out of left field too. No one really expected it, especially considering Atari paid a pretty good amount of money to license the IP for the game and SCEE just swooped in and grabbed publishing rights.

i cant remap my mouse buttons, argh. i ALWAYS use the rmb for moving forward...cant do it in this game. LAME-o

I've used RMB for forward for... oh... 16 years?

Just curious what your control config is?
usually whatever the game comes with is fine with me. I will just about always have the rmb be aim though. for Ghostbusters specifically I found the 360 controller much better suited than kb/m anyway.

aim? I must not understand what you mean, as I've used mouselook to pitch/yaw my aim with the mouse since at least since Quake...

And I can't rem the last time default control configs worked for me... Some of them I assumed are jokes...

I know I always invert the mouse...

rmb is almost always aim just like lmb is always fire.

Your pic doesn't help.

It must be zoom or look down your sights or something...

Strange, as it's an action button, so you'd assume they're using "aim" as a verb (action), but apparently they're using it as a noun, I guess...

Zoom makes more sense than aim, as your guns always aimed at where you're pointing anyway...

I mean, they don't have a button called look, as you're always looking anyway? Why have a button called aim when your weapons always aimed where you're looking?

Must be using it as a noun...

But why would zoom be the same button as alt fire? Hmph...

I don't know what you are confused about but aim is the right word and its pretty much the norm for rmb. a lot of games have a different button or sometimes even the scroll wheel for zoom while you are aiming. btw looking down your sites is aiming in most cases. also definition of aim: to point a weapon at an object

Wow... Responses... :)

I'll respond in one post to a bunch of points here.

@MISMCSA: I'll take a look at the steam forums. If you have any links handy, I'd appreciate them. I'm not a steam forums user and I bet there's more than a couple of threads on this issue. Which game upgrade? Is it some kind of secret or am I being sent on a quest?

@Darundal: Buying a controller is not a fix. I hate controllers. Maybe I'm too old to use a controller. I've never liked the feel, I can never get the game/character to do what I want compared to k/m and I'm not spending another $40 to fix MA in a game I paid $20 for.

@PrincessFrosty: You're bang on. I read posts around here about people who are super fussy about acceleration using hacked mouse drivers and all that sort of thing for their "competitive" level play. I'm not fussy like that at all but there's something seriously broken with Ghostbusters. It's completely unenjoyable for me.

Thanks, all

I managed to trudge through the game with the mouse acceleration issues. The game is fun so it was totally worth it. However, it is the only time I really was thankful for having a mouse with on the fly sensitivity adjustment. Some scenes you will look towards an area and the mouse will be going bonkers, and other times it was perfect. I just adjusted accordingly and it was still bad, but tolerable.

What settings do you like to play with. Do you turn on soft particles? Does anyone else have low gpu usage in crossfire? I was playing this today, and noticed the game was only using about 40% of each card and getting about 44fps.

it doesn't use much of my gpu either. this is a very cpu intensive game though. if I put my Core 2 Duo at 2.0 it becomes a slideshow in spots while using high settings and really isnt that playable. heck even at 3.8 I get massive slowdown at times when a lot physics are going on. I would leave soft particles off as it makes zero visual difference but can take a huge framerate hit in areas with smoke/fog.

Just thought I'd bump this, been playing ghostbusters recently as I grabbed it in a steam sale recently, despite the mouse accel problems being a massive almost game breaking pain in the ass, the game itself is really good. I'm playing through on casual (easy) and the gameplay is really quite good, you're battling to zap these ghosts down into the traps and end up destroying your environment as you go, it's good fun.
