I am looking for an alternative for Norton Ghost on an XP machine that will allow me to burn the image to DVD & boot from it in case I need to recover from the disk.

So why can't Ghost do that? I have several bootable ghost images on DVDs.

I have the newest version of Norton Ghost and Acronis True Image. It is my personal experience that Acronis is much better than Norton. It was about $30 less when I purchased it as well.

If you buy Acronis True Image, buy it from an online source like Newegg.com because it will be cheaper that way. You still get all the benifits from the Acronis site like updates etc.

I have used True Image and Ghost and True Image just works better for me. Never had a problem with it.

I image my Windows partition to DVD weekly using the Terabyte 'Image for Windows' + 'Image for Dos' combo package @ $27.

Image for DOS will do fine for only $18, just a few minutes slower to create the image.

Absolutely reliable and bloat-free; I've restored 5 times from DVD over the past year.

Hope this helps!
