I would use Acronis as I think it is better but if you get a retail hard drive many come with a program to do it.

Yes you can, but I have had some fairly lousy luck with Symantec stuff personally. What'd I'd recommend getting is the Ultimate Boot CD from www.ubcd4win.com and boot off of it. It contains the tools to do that and it's freeware (assuming you have a legit copy of XP SP2).
