I recently started getting these strange artifacts on my desktop see the screenshot...

I should mention that I had the same problems months ago but after installing omega drivers it was gone, no performance drops or anything, and ive been fine... until now.

I don't know what the problem is but i know its not a heat issue.
I am completly stuck and any help would be greatly appreciated.

my card is an HIS 9800pro 128mb ICEQ (stock speeds)
psu-400W
mobo- asus A7V8X-X
AMD Athlon XP 2400+
 
It could very well be that your 400watt psu isnt putting enough power to the 12v rail. Check the amps. If its lower than like 20 I'd HIGHLY suggest getting something higher. 9800pro and the other high end cards are 12v power hungry.

I was getting graphic corruption after playing a video game after awhile..It would display just like yours and if I didnt exit and reboot quick enough it would lockup my computer. I switched out the power supply for one giving off more amps on the 12v rail and hasnt happened since.

I went from a psu giving off 18amps on the 12v to 34amps on the 12v rail.
 
i have 13 amps on the 12 rail, could this cause the intermitent problems I have though? wouldnt it always be messed up rather than times when it is fine?
sry if this is a dumb question, im still kinda a noob in terms of hardware
 
Wow..13 amps is extremely low. Not unheardof but REALLY REALLY low..definately get a new psu with at least 25+ amps

Im really shocked your 9800pro even loads. When my psu would nerf up like that, I'd reboot and it would say that my 9800pro wasnt connected and it was. I highly suggest you get a new psu.

And no, it wouldnt mess up all the time. It would most likely do it randomly or after the video card started to heat up and draw more power.
 
thank you so much, like i said ive had this problem forever! finally it seems like ive figured it out. Just one final question, any suggestion on a specific psu to buy? or companies that r good?

That's a nice PSU. If your budget is more limited, you can also get good performance from 400w+ Enermax or Antec units for about $60-65.
