I'm in the process of upgrading my son's older gaming pc so he can play BF3 and some more newer games. So he is running on (see list 1) and will be upgrading to (see list 2). So now to my question I'm looking to upgrade the GFX card as well and was wondering what would be a good upgrade for about $100.00 and capable of playing BF3 and newer games.

list 1
CD2 E6850
Evga 680i
GTX 260 216 core
4GB Corsair
2x 150GB Raptors in Raid 0
Corsair HX Series 620 watt psu

list 2
i7 920 w/Corsair A50
MSI X58 Pro-E
6GB OCZ

GTX 460 is easily attainable for about $100 used on the For Sale section of the forum. Or, a 6870 is even better for that price (but I usually see them go for about $135 or so).

I would suggest a Radeon 7770. They can be found new for $110-$120. It offers the same performance as the 6870. From what I've read, it can run most games on high settings at 1080p. Thinking of getting one myself.

a $100 card will not get you much of an upgrade over a GTX260.

Get a used GTX470, it will be equal to 2 GTX260's.

But to let that new I7 shine best bang for buck would be a GTX660ti or GTX670

I don't like AMD so no suggestions there.

a 7770 is not quite as fast as the 6850 so no it does not offer the same performance as a 6870. a 7770 is only about 30% faster than the gtx260 that he already has.

a 470 is not even close to twice as fast as the gtx260. its actually only a little more than 50% faster overall.
