GF3 to AIW9600xt?

What I’m wondering is how much of a step up or down is the 9600XT compared to my old visiontek GF3. I know it’s clocked faster and is a dx9 card but being crippled to 4 pipes how close in performance will it be?

This is for my back up system so I can record TV/fm (can’t miss Bob and Tom) it also serves as a games rig for guests so I don’t want to take away from the gaming experience at all.

I have the 9800XT and yes it rocks but I’m a little hesitant on getting the AIW 9600XT if the AIW 9800 came with the fm tuner I would have an easy choice on my hands:p but no luck there yet :(

Thanks in advance for the help!

9600XT is a pretty nice step up, nothing compared to a 9800pro, but still much better.

why not just pick up a tv tuner with fm tuner built in? $40, and you can continue to upgrade your video card w/o any ill results

If you're looking to save a few bucks you could pick up a 9600 AIW. It's not an XT but it's the same core and architecture and costs about $100 less.

ok i forgot to mention its not a money issue. i would prefer everything in one card hense the AIW.

the AIW9600xt has everything i want in a single card but im not sure it has the speed.
Anyone have this card and gamed with it? first hand knowledge would be great especially if you went from a GF3 to it.

thanks again!

I agree, if money is not an issue then spend another $70 (if you can) for an AIW 9800 Pro.

nice but it does not have a FM tuner in it. that is Y i only went with the AIW9600xt. otherwise its a no brainer to get the AIW9800.

one card does everything.

Really all im conserned with here is the speed of the 9600 will it be equal to or better than the GF3 that is there now?

Thanks again

In dx8.1 without AA and AF, it will perform very similarly. that is of course if your gf3 is overclocked. As soon as you turn on AA and AF, the gf3 cannot compete. The same goes with dx9 games, the gf3 cannot run them well.

This is a pretty good rundown... i still recommend getting a TV tuner seperately, you might actually enjoy that option more... that way you can get whatever video card you want and nto have to worry about upgrading to another AIW. You can get whatever card fits your needs... Just my opinion, though!

also if u get an AIW that takes away the ability to do a dual monitor setup on the same video card if u ever wanted to.

Actually the AIW9600XT supports dual monitors just not DVI :( guess my FP2001 stays on my 9800xt for me alone :p

thanks for the input so far!
