Hi,

On one of my PCs (notebook) i got 8400gs graphics card.
It is supposed to support hardware acceleration for video decoding but...
doesnt work!

neither powerDVD and Mirillis Splash Beta 2 do not play video with gpu.

whats wrong with this graphics card?
i tried several different video drivers etc. no success :(

First thing to check is if the correct driver installed and work properly?

Those programs may not support hardware acceleration. If not, try playing an H.264 HD file in Quicktime.

Your CPU should be good enough to run DVD's and SD content w/out any problem at all.

Try a different DVD program too.

Also, what type of files are you trying to play with the Splash program?

Both splash beta 2 and powerdvd support hardware acceleration for h.264 decoding.

i know coz it owrks on my desktop with gtx280.

i play AVCHD files from camcorders in splash, HD trailers in mov format and some bluray rips. i got core 2 duo 2GHz and its enough for smooth video but if i have GPU on 8400GS i would like to use it :) and i cant.

i tired only SPlash BETA 2 (because its free) and powerDVD ( i got it bundled with bluray rom). i have MPC HC (it is supposed to support DXVA) but there is too much settings and cant get it work at all (besides mpc hc is not good for avchd files).

i also got correct drivers. and tried with several versions of drivers. no success.
would be nice to find someone who has DXVA working on 8400GS :O
i also wrote to nvidia support with no answer :/

works!

didnt try with other software but DXVA on gf8400 works with splash beta 3 after installing new drivers from nvidia.

i thought that amd/ati sucks at drivers. nvidia does crappy driverss too :/

nope. beta 3 with old drivers had green screen on DXVA video decoding. just like beta 2.
drivers update and green screen gone.
