I currently have a GeForce FX5800 128MB DDR,8x AGP

I was looking into getting the BFG GeForce 6800OC,128MB DDR,8x AGP

Is it much of an upgrade, or should I just save my money?

Thanks!

That's a no-brainer. Even going from the 5800 to a 6600GT is a no-brainer. Everything is better about it: memory bandwidth, SM3.0, proper DX9 acceleration, quieter, cooler, etc. etc. etc. Upgrade to either.

Actually no, they both have the same memory bandwidth. :p

Actually the 6800 has almost TWICE the memory bandwidth, not to mention twice the overall processing power of an FX 5800. 21+GB/s vs 12GB/s. The 6800 is 12 pipeline, 256bit vs 128bit and 8 pipeline(was really 4 in disguise if I'm not mistaken). Don't mind what he just said as its total nonsense. The 6800oc is a big improvement over even the top of the line cards of last generation. Its a great value too.

nah the 5800 is 128bit and they fixed that by releasing the 5950u with the 256bit..? i think

GeForce FX 5800
core: 400 MHz, 3200 MTexels/s
mem: 128-bits DDR II, 400 MHz, 12.80 GB/s

GeForce FX 5800 Ultra
core: 500 MHz, 4000 MTexels/s
mem: 128-bits, DDR II, 500 MHz, 16.00 GB/s

GeForce FX 5950 Ultra
core: 475 MHz, 3800 MTexels/s
mem: 256-bits, DDR, 475 MHz, 30.40 GB/s

GeForce 6600 GT
core: 500 MHz, 4000 MTexels/s
mem: 128-bits, GDDR3, 500 MHz, 16.00 GB/s

GeForce 6800
core: 325 MHz, 3900 MTexels/s
mem: 256-bits, DDR, 350 MHz, 22.40 GB/s

GeForce 6800 GT
core: 350 MHz, 5600 MTexels/s
mem: 256-bits, GDDR3, 500 MHz, 32.00 GB/s

GeForce 6800 Ultra
core: 400 MHz, 6400 MTexels/s
mem: 256-bits, GDDR3, 550 MHz, 35.20 GB/s

The 6800nu really ought to have a * next to it as there is a decent chance (a bit over 50/50) of unlocking 4 more pixel pipes and 1 more vertex shader, making it essentially a 6800GT with less/slower memory.

Yeah, I meant the 6800, not the 6600. :D Shoulda made that a bit more clear.

Actually, according to the Nvidia web site, the 5800 is 256 bit as well..

yes, hte graphics core is 256-bit. the graphics memory is 128-bit

nah the 5800 is 128bit and they fixed that by releasing the 5950u with the 256bit..? i think
the entire 5900 series is 256-bit, and the 5950U was a refresh; basically just an overclocked 5900U.. i believe

gosh i wish my ultra have the clock speed of the 5950's.. not the core.. but the clocks hehehe that would be sweet if it came factory like that :)
