I'm hoping to buy an X1800XT and a Crossfire motherboard by Christmas, but I'm worried by the fact that there are so few cards available right now. Will the availability be much better come, say december? Also, where are all the crossfire boards? I've only seen one crossfire motherboard, and that's DFI's new crossfire one. Will more of these boards also become available near the end of this month? I appreciate any replies.
thanks,
Paul

no it's kind of a silly post, the X1800XT is available now, and the Crossfireboard is also, just not X1800XT crossfire card, It shouldn't be long before these pop out =p

In lieu of the fact that ati is coming out with a driver update to enable Crossfire with 2 slave (regular) X1300/X1600 cards they may head this route with the X1800 cards. The 4 dual link adapters in the back would be able to supply the bandwidth needed for all of this via their current design. Who knows what they are gonna do in the end but honestly I don't like the whole mastercard thing. I hope they do away with this as it makes crossfire that much harder to obtain. If this were like SLI you could order 2 X1800s and be done with it. Crossfire mobo's are available though.

Anandtech had an article that said more ATi and Crossfire boards from other vendors will be hitting the market within the next few weeks.

As for the master cards, I just don't know. The current news is about a driver update from ATi that will allow Crossfire to work on the X1300/X1600 without a Crossfire master card. What it is about these cards that is so different as to allow them to not require a master while the X1800XL/X1800XT is beyond me.

The X1800XT are sort of available now, but the onyl places with them in stock are charging 700$ or more. Why anyone would pay that for one card when you could SLI GTX's for 900, I'll never know.

That's one of the main reasons I dont liek the mastercard thing. Stores can pricegouge because it's proprietary and without a master card your screwed. ATI's excellent driver team may be able to pull out a miracle. Who knows though. here's hoping
