getting wierd noise during boot up

i've started getting a wierd noise during boot up.

sounds like a dying modem trying to dial up, but it sounds out of tune.

[it's quiet, but high pitched type sound]

I aint using the modem in my pc anyway, i use a dsl router. I've tried disabling my modem but it made no difference.

I dont get what this is?
 
Any torroids on the mainboard close together?

Sometimes they become self resonant, and need to be gently pushed away from one another if too close...
 
I dont really wanna get physical with my pc, if i can avoid it.

I've had this pc for at least 4 months and never has this occur before.

Maybe i got some kind of a virus?

I am using the latest AVG Free Edition and i use lavasoft adware remover thing
 
It's either what Willington suggested, which requres gently pushing to torroid cores apart, or your PSU (I had a A.C. Ryan that would whisltle like that on boot up when the 12V was under heavy "motor" load... Drives spinning up, etc.)

Get physical. ;)
 
I have discovered that when booting my pc up with my 19inch M993s monitor switched off, the sound is gone???

What the heck is that all about?
 
It's the graphics card.

My old Geforce used to do it sometimes. Nothing much you can do about it. Maybe a light volt mod might clear it up.

I've no idea what causes it. Something related to voltage regulation or something.
 
I have no clue wot a volt mod is.....


I've paid £350 for this graphics card and i wont put up with this for much longer
 
A volt mod is a warranty voiding, 'potentially lethal to your card', physical modification done to increase it's voltage. Done usually to help obtain a higher overclock.

I don't recommend you do it since you have no idea what it is (no offence).

But anyway, is it really that much of a problem? If it only happens on bootup, consider yourself lucky it doesn't do it all the time.:D

Plus I'm surprised you can hear it over all your PC's case fans etc. Obviously I haven't heard it myself, but my geforce wasn't THAT loud to be of serious annoyance.
