Ugh, this is such a lame n00b question. I'm going to swallow my pride and ask anyway.

I can't get video off my damned camera. Windows doesn't detect it, and none of my video editing programs find it.

It's a Canon Elura 80, and it's connected to a firewire card. I have the thing on play, plugged in, but nothing recognizes it.

I've searched all over but all I find is people selling camcorders.

So how the hell do I get video off this thing.

Yes, I've RTFM, but it has nothing.
Thanks.

You may have it on PLAY, but do you have it turned ON?

(I'm not insulting you, I've done it before too!)

Other than that, do you know for sure that firewire port works?

LOL, yeah, it's turned on. :) I've used the FW port before so I know it works. I even reinstalled it.

This is pissing me off. I know it's something retarded I'm forgetting.

Thanks for the reply.

When plugged in, you should see it in device manager (i think). do you?
What software are you trying to use? version of windows?

just to re-iterate, the cam should be powered up, and in VTR mode. Your software should be set to DV NTSC, with device control enabled.

I'm an idiot. It's fixed.

It was a bad header on my mobo for the firewire port. It detected it but just wouldn't work. I switched headers and bingo.

Thanks for the help.
