Getting SSD RAID 0, tips?

My single raptor ADFD is getting a bit long in the tooth and I've been thinking about getting a velociraptor for a while, but spending ~$200 for ~10% performance increase doesn't really make sense...

Recently newegg slashed prices on their SSD's so on an impulse I've bought 2x PQI 64GB SSD's and a 3ware 9690SA controller :D

I've heard horror stories about windows install problems and write stutter, but I'm hoping the massive cache on the controller and RAID 0 will help alleviate that somewhat...

Any tips on how I should configure my XP install to get maximum performance out of this config? Should I put the swap file on my spinning drives or the SSD? What about things like turning on/off hibernate, prefetch, etc.? Also, would it help if I upgraded to Vista?

PS What stripe size should I use? 64k?

1. configure xp using alignment for sectors, there is a thread at ocz forums showing how to do that.
(eliminate stutters from alignment as XP cant do that at setup. (vista/w7 can)
2. tweak the OS as some guides shows for defragg, index, fetch etc...
3. Pagefile is best to be using a ramdrive, get more ram, make a ramdisk, put pagefile, cache from FF and IE there.
Newer ramdrives can actually handle more ram than XP see, so if you get 8gb for you machine, you can use 5gb or so for ramdrive if you like. (might cost a little to get the program).

The stutter is a little over the top, if you get a raid card, there will seldom be any especially if you tweak the system a little.
Then wait for the 64gb ssd that comes out and when they get down in price get two of those ;)

some inspiration as I got my areca card today
areca 1210, 2x32gb a-data 300 series (using jmicron controller that sucks)
128k strip size

Oh shit, it gives your cpu MORE power! Check out that cpu usage.

Flopper:

Would it be a correct observation that raid'ing the SSD's gives an insane increase in burst speeds?

Also, how often would you say you encounter stuttering with your current configuration in normal desktop usage and internet surfing? Is it ever a problem in real time applications such as games? Movies? Music?

Or is it just a tangible lack of responsiveness whenever you save and load files in programs that are already running?

Burst speed can have a lot to do with the controller than the drive at times.

Just started playing with my 4 X 30 gig SSD into a Perc 5i controller and my burst is slower than the actual read speed. That may improve as I tweak things though.
