Getting proper resolution over DVI-HDMI cable

I am attempting to run a sapphire x1800xt to a Vizio 37" TV. The tv's native res is 1366x768.

I have run that res fine on a SVGA cord to the tv. However cataylst control center shows the tv as being ID'd properly, but will not output 1366x768 on the DVI-HDMI cord. Instead it outputs 1360x768 which causes the tv to adjust it, and it looks blurry. I want to run the native res. I am running the latest ATI drivers.


I realize this is probably a common issue as I came up with some stuff in searches, but was unable to find a answer.

Attempting to run powerstrip doesn't help as the custom resolution icon is grayed out.

It is impossible to run 1366x768. What you want to try to do is get the TV to not scale the image. For example, on my Sony, it runs 1360x768 and just cuts off three rows of pixels on each side.
 
download a little program called powerstrip.

i think you will find it help with your situation.
 
Well I'm still working on this however my research seems to indicate that only certain (few) tv's will take nonstandard resolutions over HDMI and no Vizio tv's will. It will work just fine over vga for %100 mapped pixels. I'm upgrading the tv in a few weeks :D to a 42, or 47. I will post back if anything changes.
 
Powerstrip isn't going to help. You can only run resolutions in multiples of 8. That is the problem with 720p native HDTV's that have a resolution of 1366x768. You'll be lucky to get it looking proper. The best success I've had is with Nvidia's drivers using the output to HDTV option and selecting 720p. It will auto adjust the best it can, then you can further tweak it by using the resize option.
 
I see this quistion asked al the time here. its a common problem. I have had 3 720p HDTVs hooked up to my computer. Everyone of them worked great with VGA, None of them would work properly with DVI or HDMI.

If you read your manual I think you will see that it will suggest useing VGA when hooking up a computer. I dont know why this is but its the facts.

I went out and bought a DVI to VGA cable just for this, this way I dont have that adapter adding stress to the video card port. I got 5 of them on E-Bay for $15 and they work really well.

I have the same video card as you and tried every possible setting to get it to work with DVI/HDMI it just dont work, I actually found the VGA signal from the computer to look near perfect, so I don't see a reason to stress yourself out trying to get VGA to work.

I'll be damned. I didn't know that about 720p. Glad I am using 1080p :)
