Getting PowerDVD to work in 4.1?

I've been trying to get PowerDVD 5.0 to output into 4.1, but I can't really get it to work. However, if I put it in 2 speaker mode, sound comes out of all 4 speakers. I've noticed that sound comes out of one channel in 4.1 mode, which is weird. What can I do to get it fixed? Also, with the CLMEI and Dolby Downmix, TruSurroundXT, etc, how do I know what would give me the best sound imaging?
