I just bought a laptop with a few HP logos on them that have been painted (not plastic / sticker bezels) and I was wondering how well acetone works (plastic safe of course) does it remove it like it was never there? does it leave a greasy residue in the spot you used it? help please....

it's a HP L2000 Laptop, I want to remove the Livestrong branding.... (ok kill me now)

Here's the main logo (couple others on the inside)

just get some rubbing alcohol or isoprophyl (sp) and scrub over and over till it comes off

That doesnt look like it will come off cleanly. Anything that will take off the letter well might damage the plastic finish too. Not sure if Alcohol will get that off but worth a try. Googone and other cleaners might be worth a try too. Really depends on how they applied the letters... Might be vinyl paint or vinyl dye. If Vinyl dye, you might have trouble getting it off completely. Good luck, and yeah... you're going to hell... :)

sounds like we got a lance armstrong hater here. GTFO! :p

Just get another sticker and stick over it ?

Acetone is nail polish remover and I don't believe it will remove most paint.

d00d, do NOT use acetone... it will seriously melt the plastic casing wherever it contacts, and the damage is seriously irreparable. sometimes even the fumes mess up the surface finish!!! i dont have good other suggestions, but try some other, weaker solvent than acetone. if you know what you're are doing, go ahead, but if you havent done anything like this before, research other solvents.

Most paint, including cheap laquers, arnt going to come off any easer than plastic will.I really doubt you will find anything that will take off the paint completley, and leave the plastic in-tact. But it certainly wont hurt to try.

Yeah, getting rid of labeling is a pain the @!! I don't understand why companies insist on placing all sorts of decals that look horibble and that many people don't want displayed or be associated with (like Fatal1ty  ). Try using rubbing alcohol - the 99% variety works best. You could try to *GENTLY* heat it up on *LOW HEAT* blow dryer for a few seconds, but don't overdo it as you may fuse the lettering to the plastic or damage something in the process. Heating the label usually makes the glue or sticky paint soften up and become somewhat runny so you can then peel it off. Disclaimer not responsible for anything that happens by applying this method!!!

As mentioned above... acetone eats many plastics. I would either ask a silkscreen printer (company that makes signs) or metal fabricator (that makes metal parts that are painted with silkscreen painted lettering) for a recommendation.

yeah dude. acetone will eat the plastic. bad idea.

try goo gone. works the best for me.
