I recently moved 4 hard drives (varying sizes between 80 -300 gigs) to and old P2 running Windows XP. I have the drives connected to an Adaptec PCI to IDE controller. Occasionally when copying files from one computer to this one. I get a series of errors.
"An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk2\D during a paging operation."
"The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur."
"The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\D."
"{Delayed Write Failed} Windows was unable to save all the data for the file . The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere."

This seems to happen with all of the drives, randomly.Eventually explorer crashes. I tried updating the drivers for the card which worked ok, but I couldn't update the bios for it. When I do a Scandisk and chkdsk, both come back fine, and there are no errors in the event viewer. Any advice would be appreciated.

power supply

too many drives plugged into the same chain (if multiple) of power line
e.g. 4 molex connectors on inside PSU chain - all to HDs

bad cables / try new / other 80wire/40pin cables

the card could be bad also
