Getting data not showing up in windows.

Is 20 GB a significant number for Hard Disks?

A few days ago I merged 2 partitions on my laptop HD and something got seriously fubar'd. My NTLDR was missing. I put it back and ran into more errors. Today I put the drive into an external enclosure and only 2/3 of the files show up and they add up to exactly 20GB. I need my files back. For some reason the windows folder and the my documents folder is showing up.

Is there any program out there which can show all data located on a disk? I think its still there cause windows says there is 25GB free out of 55.
