I just recently installed a aiw 9600 into my system(specs below). Before this I had an original AIW radeon, and it worked perfectly. however, now I am experiencing very frequent, random, lockups where I get a bsod saying that "Hardware malfunctioned, contact the hardware vendor". This also seems to be happening right before the welcome screen appears.

Before installing the new drivers/software, I completely uninstalled the old, including any reference to ati in the registry. Once, when i got back into windows, it told me the problem was the ati dll file.

I have seen solutions telling me to increase the voltage to the agp bus, but I see no where to do that in the bios.

The only thing that I can think of that I am going to try: it seems as though the firewire card(2 months old) shares the irq of the aiw. How can I change this? I think i'm going to take out that card and see if i can stabalize the computer. Any other ideas? Thanks for your help.

system specs:
epox 8kha+
mobile 2400+@2.1ghz
768 pc1600
sb live! value
firewire card
win xp sp2(lockups experienced in both sp1 and sp2)

anyone have any suggestions based upon personal experience? I also read about agp driving strength? Anyone recommend messing around with that?

ok...i've tried changing the irq...and when that didn't work i just removed all of the other pci cards. still no go. It's doing it very frequently, the earliest always is when the welcome screen appears.

it's not hot at all, i have a fan blowing on it. could it be a driver issue? i dont' know of any other way to install them other than what i did.

my one other concern would be that the 9600 aiw draws a lot more power than the original aiw radeon. I have a generic 300w ps that came with the pc(since almost everything else has been replaced). In mbm the 12v is +12.5, but the +3 is 1.3 I've heard this isn't very accurate, but could it be that I need to get a new, good ps? any help is greatly appreciated.
