It's been so long since I've upgraded my iPad.

How should I transition to the new iPad? Make a save and restore? Or start fresh? If I do start fresh, I know I'll have to do everything over. So starting fresh best be worth it.

Opinions on this?

I most/all of the time just do a fresh start. It help me to focus on those apps I really need at that time and don't get all the clutter back.

Plus what is iTunes ? I'm not connected since years via cable.

Will restore. Allegedly with iOS 11, complete deletion of apps will be easier and more complete.

There's very little these days that's unique to these devices with most apps. The only reason I would ever backup an old device and restore to a new one is if that was the only way to bring some apps data forward. Every app I use syncs either to iCloud, Dropbox or their own sync service.

Given that I never restore when I get a new iOS device these days. It helps me clean out the dead weight apps I never use. And I've had far less stability issues then when I continually rolled installs forward with each new iOS device.
