I've already got one 2405, and it's GREAT. I want another one. Right now I've got a Geforce 6800, and from what I've read on this site I should get a Video card with dual DVI-D links in them.

Do any Geforce cards have dual DVI-D? I've seen a lot of ati recommendations...but...I don't care >_> do any of the 7x00 series have what I'm looking for?

Also, will there be any repercussions for upgrading? Like a motherboard not being able to support a newer card or something? I've got a PCI-E slot, but I've heard newer cards like the 7900 are quite intensive...if you can help, thanks.
 
Not only would a 7900gt have two DVI ports, it's also one hell of a boost in preformance. Unless you already know ATI alright, I'd just stick with Nvidia. Popular brand and lots of people to help you on stuff.
 
Well does the 7900gt have two DVI-D ports? Or just a DVI-I and a DVI-D? It seems like, from what I've read, I want two DVI-D outputs.

Money really isn't a problem. The problem is getting the right card for the right monitors. As long as it supports the monitors well in everything it does--primarily gaming--cost isn't a concern.
 
I think what you are thinking of is dual link DVI. That is for running the insane resolutions on the Apple and Dell 30" displays. Normal DVI does not have the bandwidth to run them at thier native res.

The 7900 GT has one dual link DVI port and one normal. Since you do not have a 30" display you will be ok. Unless you plan on having dual 30's:) that when you would have problems.

The 7900 GTX has two dual link DVI ports instead of one.
 
Thanks...although another thread here--I can't honestly remember where--recommended dual link DVI ports because apparently there's some lag if one monitor isn't on a dual link DVI connection.

If that's wrong, that's fine. I may get the 7900GTX anyway....I assume it won't be a problem? Power wise? Motherboard wise? If my motherboard can handle it--I assume it can--I'll get that.

You will be happy with the 7900GTX. Get a non-superclock cuz it isnt worth the money. OC it yourself and it will be good.

Some more specs on your system would help, such as proc, Mobo and RAM. If you consider yourself upto the challenge you could always Vmod a GT. I decided against it because I am going to get rid of this card when the G80/DX10/HDCP parts come out and then I am going to start keeping my parts allot longer.

Im curious what games you play that you want 2 monitors for? Soes it split the screen down the middle so half goes to each monitor? I think it would be weird in fps games but maybe not
 
I think they are talking about two free molex power connectors must be free if your power supply doesnt have a native pci-e plug. If it doesnt, the vendor supplies an adaptor that goes from two molex connectors, to one 6 pin pci-e connector, that in turn goes to your vid card.

You wont have any probs either way... as long as your power supply can crank out the required amps. Which begs the question, what power supply are you using???

Edit: To plasma... sometimes having two monitirs doesnt mean you are going to game on them both at the same time. If I had a dual monitor setup I wouldnt anyway. Maybe three:)

I would just like to have my gaming going on one monitor, and be able to do other stuff on the other. Thats my guess is what the OP is doing...
 
I have a 7900GT BFG OC and I can support my 30inch Apple with both DVI ports. Works fine here.

Thanks for all your help! I found out my power supply is 460W, and I need a 400W for the Geforce 7900GT.

I assume there's no incompatibility with my motherboard. Man I hope that's true. I've got a PCI-E slot and it's only a year old, I can't imagine the mobo causing problems.

Ordering a second monitor tonight.

The 7900GT does have two dual link DVI ports. It is the 7800 series that doesn't.
 
1920x1200 is within single-link DVI bandwidth, you don't need dual-link DVI.

all you need is 2 DVI ports.

7800-series have 1 x dual-link and 1 x single-link DVI

7900-series have 2 x dual-link link DVI

dual-link is only need if you are going for the 30in 3007FWP 2650x1600 ;)
 
I ran dual 2405fpw's with my old 6800nu. You will have no problem running both displays. Gaming, on the other hand, is a different story.
 
Well, I may upgrade to two 3007FPW's someday anyway, so the 7900GT is still a solid investment.

Runs Age of Empires III on hi res and AA just fine with TV tuner running on other screen.

The only odd thing is that I had a stop error when opening a Window Media Player file. The 7900GT fan started spinning like CRAZY.

It required a supplemental power cable, by the way. Luckily I had one inside my motherboard.

Also, the software installed an ASUS Media "Enhancer" that shows up each time I open WMP...it's kind of annoying...if I don't need it I'll uninstall it.

i tried that long ago, and it DOESNT WORK!!!! as soon as you enter a full screen game the other screen essentially dies with windows and apps moving to the right (mostly off screen), thus killing the purpose of what i envisioned having two screens for. . so i did the next best thing. I built a new gaming rig and used my old one as a fileserver. So now I have a fileserver that at my local lan can still kick some serious ass, as my main rig is dammm heavy in the fulltower casing. Sounds stupid economically but I was leaning towards this anyway, and eventually i have much more sinister plans :D
