By Friday, I'll be testing it inside an Asus P4P800 deluxe with stock cooling.

Any benchmark requests other than the obvious overclocking abilities?

I have a 2.66G Celeron D. I'm using stock heatsink, voltage at 1.435V, it runs rock steady at 3.6G.

Idle temperature is about 40C, and under load (Prime 95) it's runs at about 51C.

post benchmarks, id like to see how it holds up against say a p4 3.2

I can directly bench it against a Northwood 3.2 (Its the one I'm using right now). I also plan on slightly undervolting and maybe even underclocking it too to see how feasable it is as a SFF CPU and/or a noiseless CPU.

I really doubt it, but if it can go below 1.3 volts and still stay stable its got a shot.

Which benchmarks do you want to see??

I also have a 2.4A prescott, that runs stable at 3.4G, at 1.435V.

Looks like these could turn out to be nice procs...

3.6-3.8 @ $100 and maybe 5-10% slower than a similarly clocked P4

Yes, post some benches please... games and media encoding if you have the time.

from most of the benchmarks ive see on sites, precott celerons at ~3.7 are about as fast as p4 3.2's

Ok, initial impressions still inside the box:

They have two windows on the box now so you can physically see the chip and Heatsink/fan combo you are getting. It ships with the split-fin radial type heatsink (wish I had a camera handy) and not the parellel thin-fins that I'm so used to seeing on most P4's. On the box it says 1.40V max. It also specifies UP only (Uniprocessor I'm guessing)

Edit: http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1556&page=2 Is the Celeron D heatsink design and has a surprisingly quiet fan. In the couple hours I've been using it, I can tell already that it is doing a better job of cooling than the stock P4 heatsink.

Doing a quick burn-in at standard voltage (1.375 volts) will yeild an overclock of 3.45 Ghz at 164 Mhz FSB. Raising the voltage only slightly improves overclock potential. It runs slightly cooler than a P4 northy by 2 or 3 degrees, but I was expecting much cooler.

Overclocked it feels very close but not quite up to speed with my non-overclocked P4 3.2 northy.

Keep up informed. I need something to replace a 2000+ Pally with a cool running CPU and this might just be the ticket.

Like I've kept on saying, the Prescott Celeron-D is one of the very few Celeries that don't completely suck.

At your max overclock of 3.45GHz, I'd estimate overall performance at somewhere in between a 2.8C and a 3.0C Northwood P4.

well the Celeron D has 256kb cache... unlike the old P4 Celeron w/128kb cache which is probably one of the biggest contributing factors in making it a dog slow cpu...

these Celeron D's are pretty interesting... hrmmm :D
