Getting a 4870.

the local store was out of stock of the HIS 4870 but MSI version is coming out in less than a week and i wanted to know if its safe to buy?(his wont be coming for a month or so)

has anyone tested msi 4870 ? cant seem to find reviews at all

any advice/help would be nice

4870's are all the same regardless of what brand it is (given they are normal spec and not OC'd out of the box by specific brands)

the only thing you need to be wary about is as to the warranty of a certain brand. Others might be $10 more but will give you lifetime warranty. Nevertheless, MSI 4870 should be as any other 4870 in the market. Why dont you buy off on line retailers? theyre always cheaper
 
As above, most cards are the same exact hardware, only if they specifically state factory overclocks or factory replaced coolers are you going to see any variance.

Buy online, its safe and much cheaper, go for a brand which offers a good balance of game/cables bundle and long warranty.

 
I personally bought mine from newegg and got a visiontek for the lifetime warranty.

Exactly. I recieved mine and it didn't even have the visiontek sticker on it, but rather the ati radeon sticker. They are really all the same besides the warranty.
 
a lot of bestbuys are carrying the 4870 now. with the 12% off rewards coupon it comes out to be around $284 after tax.
 
thanks a lot , i am actually outside US/UK so i dont really have a choice to buy online.

guess ill go w/ msi and the warranty is i think is 3 years which is fine for me :)

but that means i still have to edit the bios to setup the fan speed for it to cool (reading that atm , have everyone of you done the same without fail?)

Never thought you had to go into BIOS. I thought you just had to edit the XML file on your profile in CCC and that was to fix the fan speed to your liking.
 
Yeah, all you have to do is make a CCC profile and edit the XML file. However, before your PC boots into Windows the card will still run with the stock fan speeds.
