My 9800 pro from newegg will be arriving today. Woot!

Should I do a reformat or just use Driver Cleaner to remove my TI4600 drivers? Whats the best way to use Driver cleaner? IE: remove drivers from Add/remove programs then run Driver cleaner?

Also, Whats a good ATI driver to go with?

THanks

It is always better to format to gain full performance out of the card. I am not sure what drivers to use because I do not have my 9800 pro anymore. But I still have love for it :D

Depends on what previous video card you got.

If you already got another Radeon it isn´t really needed for anything. Unless you got troubles that is but why go for the most bothersome approach if not needed ;)

Run Driver Cleaner to clean up the residue of the nVidia drivers and then install the latest CAt 4.2s:) Enjoy your new card.

I just got my 9800 pro from newegg and boy did I have problems wit the catalyst 4.2s.Wouldn't load. Driver cleaner did no good for me, but I had another radeon (8500). Had to re-format, but then they loaded lickety split

I did somehting like this today. I just followed the instructions that came with DriverCleaner and everything went smoothly.

1) Uninstall nVidia drivers in control panel

2) Reboot into safe mode and run Driver Cleaner, clean nVidia files

3) Shut down computer and install ATI Card

4) Startup, install ATI drivers

Went off problem free.

Btw: you're gonna loooooove your 9800 Pro. Remember that lag in BF1942? Yeah, its gone. Load times are around 30 seconds now too. (Maybe you didn't get those.. but I went from a Ti4200 to a Sapphy 9800 Pro)

ooooooooooooooooooohhhh yeahh!

If you wanna make DAMN sure your not going to run into stability or any kind of issues with those NVIDIA drivers, I would reformat the entire machine man. I did and my 9800pro has been running without a hiccup.

Others may tout cleaning up the drivers is good enough, but not in my book and experience in the past.

It's not really necessary to reformat.

I went from a Ti 4600 to a 9800 Pro.

This is what I did:

* Uninstalled nvidia drivers
* shut down computer
* Remove nVidia video card
* Put in ATI video card
* Power up
* Install ATI Catalyst driver
* Reboot
* Configure video settings

That's it.

Worked like a charm.

I don't reccomend reformatting if you have tons of applications installed - that's unless you like reinstalling software.

It would take me weeks to reinstall all my applications !!

So basically, reformating is not necessary.

that might be all well and good, and granted ive done the same thing for VC installs...BUT, this is also why we who have huge hard drives partition out, oh say...10gig for the OS and never have to worry about losing apps or saves or anything else like that ever again. ;) hell ive gone thru 5 formats since the first of the year and had no problems at all. with reformatting and doing things this way. =b

Thanks for the replies!

I used Driver cleaner and didnt reformat. No problems installing though I'm a little disapointed in my 3DMark 01 score. ( 15.8K )

I got 13K with my Ti4600. Maybe I need to reformat anyway.
