Get another router?

Hey [H], my wireless router finally died (9 years, can't complain) so I decided to upgrade. I picked up a Ubiquity WAP, 8 port gigabyte switch and a wired router but it's 10/100.

I definitely wouldn't go that route. What is your internet speed? That's a really low performing router by only having 120Mbps throughput in NAT mode. That device is not designed for your home use, IMO. If you like Ubiquiti, get either:

100/10 but I usually get 120, that MikroTik is pretty decently priced at $50

I should state that I am in no way experienced in network setup. I've set up several unifi WAP's before and am comfortable getting this WAP up and running. Besides the basics of network setup I am very green.

Any major reason to go for the edgerouter lite over the edgerouter x?

Won't hurt anything to try what you already have. While you are at it, check your cables. If they are as old as the 9yr old dead router, might not hurt to get some new ones. Some new 5e cables to match your new equipment. Old cables with years of being yanked, kicked and chewed on by pets can cause a lot of network aggravation.

If you notice your max speed to the outside world being limited, then look for a new WAN/LAN router. You might get lucky and the one you bought over performs enough to handle your ISP speed.

Thanks, cable is cat6 and all relatively new. I ended up picking up the edgerouter-x as the price seemed pretty decent for what I need. My speeds seem fine, my service is 100/10 and I usually get 120/12, upload sucks but so does Spectrum so I guess it makes sense.

Thanks for the suggestions! I varied a little from what you linked and picked up the Edgerouter X over the Lite, I didn't see anything major that I would be missing in the Lite. Setup was a breeze after 30-45min of being a moron. I mounted the router under my table upside down. You are supposed to initially set it up being plugged into Ethernet port 0. Well upside down port 0 becomes port 4... Yeah, major embarrassment there. After figuring that idiot mistake out I was able to log in, update the firmware, run the wizard and here I am. Speeds are far better than the other router I had, right in line with what I was expecting to get.

I recently acquired the Edgerouter X sfp and really like it .. so much so that I replaced my mini-ITX computer firewall running Untangle with it. My Edgerouter powers 3 Ubiquiti AP's (that connect a computer, Roku 4, 3 phones, 2 tablets, a chromebook and eventually a couple wireless cameras and a wireless video doorbell) that I have also been very happy with. I have it dropping down to a Netgear 48 port gigabyte switch (overkill) to hook up a couple computers, a server, an 8 security camera DVR, and my Xbox One.
