Get an early E8600?

I've heard that some of the best O/C CPUs come from the earliest batches. Is it worth paying the extra 'early bird' price and taking the risk now to get a new E8600 even before there are any forum reports in?

Curious about everyone's opinion...

The E8600 will most likely be using the same core revision as the E8500 and E8400, since the Wolfdale core is already very mature. I doubt you'd have any advantage with an early chip.

Actually no, it's using a new stepping - E0.

Actually no, it's using a new stepping - E0.

In that case, it would probably be a good idea to wait a while before picking one up, just to make sure something like the E6750 situation doesn't happen again and you don't get stuck with a poor overclocker. Better to let other people jump on it and see how it overclocks before you take the plunge yourself .

Well, I was in the poor e6750 boat. However, in the case of that, we saw engineering samples do really well. And a lot of the early adopters expecting the same got burned.

But in the case of the e0's, we are already seeing e8600 e0 golds and they are overclocking well. Tis the good stuff.
