Get 2 x 7950's?

I think you're crazy to buy a new GPU right at the moment. AMD announced their new chips today and they will be on the market within the next month. Hence prices will drop on all the chips currently on the market over the next few weeks probably. You're far better to wait a month or so to buy anything.

if you can get the 2x 7950's for $150 each, I'd say hell yeah, don't wait. but at $200 each, it's probably worth waiting another hour to see the product announcement.

That is why I asked. :D I was not planning on doing it right away but just toying around with the idea. Still, since $360 after rebate is cheaper than $600 and the most intense game I have is Crysis 3 which plays great already, it might be worth it.

Yea! Im waiting for them to hit that 150 mark before I get a second

What do you guys think of getting two of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1681413145 (Powercolor PCS+ 7950) to replace two of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131393 Powercolor 6950's?

I am seriously considering a 290x instead but, perhaps saving $200 to $250 would be better? Oh, and the 6950's are unlocked to 1536 shaders both but they are not overclockable.

As long as you're playing current games on a single monitor (that's not 4k, but I don't think you have that issue :)), you should be good, steering past the driver issues that AMD hasn't fixed yet.

Just note that with 3GB of VRAM, you're good for current games, but that games releasing in the near future will be developed with the extra VRAM on the new consoles in mind, and may find yourself dialing back settings to stay within 3GB to keep things running smooth. That's the only argument for waiting, though, and it's not really a good one if you can use the extra performance now and you've got a great deal!

Ohh god, not this again...

If you are going to come into my thread and start making statements like that, explain them then please. I need my question at the start answered, not crap flying around that does not help me at all. :(

I've argued at length in other threads that games designed for upcoming consoles that have 8GB of RAM will be able to use 4GB of RAM or more for graphics- meaning that this 2GB-3GB average we're getting on current mainstream cards is going to become an issue very quickly.

Most of us have gotten good use out of our cards, and will likely upgrade later- but if you're looking to buy right now, it's good to be aware of the possibilities.

Of course, he's complaining that I'm 'worried over nothing' and that 'there's no possible way that games can use more RAM without needing much faster cards' etc, but hey, again, it's better to be informed.

For you- well, with the sale you're referencing, that deal looks pretty hard to pass up, and it looks like you could actually use the performance today, so I'd recommend jumping on it and enjoying your cards. The supply of HD7970's will dry up, and then you'll only be able to get the 'refreshed' versions at higher prices because they're 'newer'.

Thank you. I have not decided yet because really, it is just an upgrade bug I get about every 20 to 24 months when it concerns video cards. :D

We all get it :).

I have one goal- be able to play next gen games at 4k. That will mean 2-3 cards with at least 8GB of RAM each, most likely, and that's cards that haven't been released yet by either vendor.

Worse, AMD has yet to really fix their drivers- and that's something I'm also watching pretty closely. The HD6950 2GB pair I upgraded from was damn near useless for BF3 at 1600p (though you've likely fared better at lower resolutions and playing different games).

I really do want a new video card or two. However, I am going to wait until the 290X comes out and get that instead. (Just one because that is all I could afford.) :D I just have to wait 3 more weeks or so and I almost sure I can do it. (Notice I said almost. :) ) However, who knows, I might change my mind, but, probably not, then again........

I have that Sapphire card and i have enjoyed it and wouldn't mind adding another but bad timing for me on money.. 2 of those would offer 7990 preformance.

I just picked up 2x 7950's MSI's and they both do 1150 with no voltage increase.. Got them both for 400 bucks.. Running them on a 1080p 120hz monitor and couldn't be happier.. They play anything I toss at them.. Ran tomb raider @ over 120fps no issues.. Running the 13.10 beta drivers and it runs smooth, heck they even fixed the world of warcraft issues with crossfire, i can leave my cards in crossfire now and runs fine..

Which MSI cards?

I'm running a 750w PSU. Picked up the MSI twin fron boost editions. The ones with the 7970 lay out with 8 pin power. Running water blocks on both of them. They run 1100 on air though with no voltage increase.

I honestly cannot find where you purchased those both for just $400.
