Geometry problem with my new FE991sb

Hey all,

Just got myself a new 19" NEC FE991sb, I really like it except this one little issue - not sure if it can be fixed short of replacing the thing (which I really don't want to do considering how much it'll cost to ship such a beast, not to mention waiting for a replacement).

Each time I turn the monitor on the geometry isn't quite how I left it, like some of the corners are being cut off or there's a small gap of unused space that was previously adjusted for - is there something I need to tweak or lock so that this doesn't repetedly happen?

Leave your monitor on for at least 30 minutes before making any geomerty adjustments. Then adjust the picture how you like it and leave it like that. Next time you turn on the monitor the geometry will be a bit off indeed but it will "adjust itself" in a couple of minutes when it warms up. That's normal for these screens. My 930SB has the same problem. If however this doesn't work then your monitor is defective and I'd consider replacing it.

It only happens when you turn you monitor off and then back on again while the pc is on. or vice versa. Its a problem it cant really be fixed, just when it happens open up and game and it will auto fix itself or wait a few min and it will just change back.

Just leave ur monitor in standby and it eliminates the problem

That's normal, particularly for aperture grill tubes. Shadow masks will drift a little too, but not nearly as much as an aperture grill. The image will stop drifting once it's warmed up. Getting fully warmed up takes maybe 1/2 an hour or so, so wait at least that long before doing your final tweaking of the display. It'll be done with most of the drifting well before that though.
The warmed up image shouldn't move around, so just let it warm up, set it, and don't mess with it after that.

also makie sure you have the requiered power getting to the monitor. This can also cause this
