Probably a stupid question, but how do you access GenMay and the other private forums after you pay for a subscription? I became a 'lifer' a few days ago, paypal charged my account, I received a receipt, etc... but do I need to alert someone or something?

Thanks :)

General Mayhem will automatically show up at the bottom of the main forum index page.

However, your status is still showing as "Registered" instead of "Subscriber". Sometimes it takes paypal a few days to complete the transaction and deposit to the payee acct. It's all automatic on this end, but since yours hasn't gone thru yet, I'd suggest you forward a copy of your receipt to kyle@hardocp.com.

When did genmay become a service you have to pay for? Why isn't it free like everything else... i mean, i'm seeing (and clicking on this ad on the page) that should be enough for my subscription right?

If i'm in the wrong let me know, I'm interested as into why this is so. (I lurked here for years and loved genmay, then society caught up to me and i disappeared for a while)

The initial money was to keep the spammer out iirc.. Why would you pay money to spam, just to get banned... If you pay, you will be good ;)

whoa.. you're in danville, IL (i live in danville, california) hehe

so.. in order to post (a lot) you would have to pay? Do you also get a special title like [H]ardGawd or whatever the titling scheme is here quicker too? or are you stuck with a title that shows you got money to burn?

You can close/open your own threads, your chance of getting a custom title goes up infinitley, and you can hold more PM's. It's a very low cost, and keeps the [H] going just a bit easier. It also keeps the deadbeats (well most ;)) out. Well worth every penny.

You have to pay to post in genmay and its two subforums. Your title doesn't change, and it increments the same as nonsubscribers.

The $5 or $15 suscriber fee is a voluntary payment to have the right to post in a forum where there is little restriction on what is posted and the moderation is miniumum. It is a nice change from posting in the rest of the forum and staying on topic all of the time. GM is a fun place and we have about 1000 or so members at this time. The small fee keeps the spammers out and trouble makers to a bare minimum

I look at it more as a donation with benefits :) I don't know that I will ever post in GenMay (I am usually hear to talk about Hardware), but it's nice to know I certainly could and that I did my little part for funds on a site i've been using for years.

By the way, my subscription went through yesterday. GenMay's a nut house.

The first GenMay was ruined by teen/pre-teen idiots spamming up the forums, along with others who registered only to cause trouble and disruption. Many who registered had multiple 'throw away' accounts so they could be banned, go back to other forums and brag about it, return and do it all over again. A simple $5 fee stopped all of that.

i'm curious.. how exactly is genmay a nut house?... like.. an example would be nice, and is any of the content that was here before the genmay was axed the first time still on there? or was that lost aswell?

By nut house I mean they have homes in there made purely of nuts. It's quite odd.

I think we are going off topic now.

There are 2 ways to find out...Pay up or wait for the next 'Free Preview'. They come up every now and then.

The cost may not keep the loonies out, but it makes sure that we are all the same kind of loonies

yep the kind of loonies with 5 or 15 bucks ;)

This GenMay is just a freeform forum where just about anything is posted (illegal, totally gross, nudity, porn, etc are still not allowed) and the banter is all good natured. It's not like the original as we don't have the disruptive element causing problems......just members having a good time posting whatever they feel. (spamming) :p The subscription fee also includes WLWC (Web Linkage Worth Clicking) which is designated work safe or non-work safe and The Soapbox for those who like to really express themselves to the nth degree, both were popular forums that disappeared about the same time as GenMay when they became unmanagable in open forum. There are some unique posters there, that is for sure..... and some interesting threads. You also get a larger PM box (300 PM Capacity), the ability to close your own threads anywhere on the forum, and the chance to be abused by the moderators in GM (good naturedly of course) :D

Unfortunately the material from the old GenMay disappeared several databases ago.
