I decided to finally hook up my 3rd monitor to my main system... turned out that the active mini-dp adapter I have has broken wires in the mini-dp end..
So I ordered a mini-dp cable so I can repair it.. and have an extra end if the new end breaks.
In the meantime, I decided to put in a second video card.
All I had around in PCI-e is an ATI x1600 and an Nvidia 7600GT.
Tried the ATI, and although I could get it sort of working with all 3 displays, Windows was giving me fits about my 7970 driver, so it was basically just 2d.. nothing else.
After I re-installed the 7970 driver, the x1600 would stop working completely... Nice....
So I tried the 7600GT. My motherboard will not even detect it.
So then I tried an old Matrox G400 PCI card. My computer sees it, but the Matrox Win7x64driver refuses to install, saying that it doesn't support my OS.. nice.
And apparently Windows 8 doesn't even support a "standard VGA" type driver like Windows 7 and previous versions do.
So I guess I am waiting until the mini-dp cable comes to I can repair my adapter.
